Mouse Aim Tracking Test

This mouse aim tracking test scores how closely you follow a target. Click to start. The dot glides around the arena for twenty seconds; your job is to keep the cursor on it. The dot turns mint while you are on target and coral when you fall behind.

Train tracking with this test

  1. 1. Start centred

Put the cursor in the middle before clicking so the first second is not lost.

  2. 2. Use smooth pressure

Tracking rewards steady arm movement, not bursts.

  3. 3. Chase a higher score

Score is 100 minus 1.5 times your average distance in pixels; 80 or more is strong.

What makes this a fair test

Deterministic path

The dot follows the same curve every run so scores are comparable.

Continuous sampling

Distance is measured every frame, not just on clicks.

Instant feedback

The dot changes colour the moment you drift off.

Two metrics

Average distance and time on target describe different weaknesses.

Tracking terms

Tracking aim
Keeping a crosshair on a moving target, used in hero shooters and against strafing enemies.
Lissajous curve
The smooth figure-of-eight-style path the dot follows.
Time on target
Share of frames where the cursor was within 1.5 radii of the dot centre.
Smoothness
Lack of jerk in your movement; the biggest factor in tracking scores.

Tracking test questions

What sensitivity is best for tracking?

Slightly higher than for flicks; many players use a separate profile.

The dot is too fast

It is tuned for a mouse. On a trackpad expect lower scores; compare trackpad with trackpad.

Why did my score drop mid-run?

Fatigue and loss of focus. Twenty seconds is intentionally long enough to show it.

Improve a low score

Always lagging behind

Raise sensitivity a little or use more arm.

Oscillating around the dot

Lower sensitivity and relax your grip.

Cursor stutters

Hardware. Run the polling stability test first.
